Facebook ads are the real cost of dropshipping. Shopify costs $29/month — a negligible expense. Meta ads cost $500–12,500/month depending on your stage. This is the line item that makes or breaks your business.

I'll show you exactly how much to spend, when to spend it, and how not to burn budget before finding a winner.


My Testing Protocol — How I Test Every Product

I spent £50,000 before developing a systematic testing protocol. After that, I capped each product test at €50. Here's how it works:

Scandinavia

  • CPM: €5–15 (premium, but highest AOV)

US Market

Why don't I run US? Higher competition, higher CPMs, and you're competing with native English speakers who understand the culture better. UK/DE/FR gives better ROAS for European-operated stores at my scale.


Budget Structure for Beginners

Don't overthink campaign structure at the start:

1 campaign (CBO) → 3–5 ad sets → 1–3 creatives per ad set

  • Campaign: CBO (Campaign Budget Optimization), €50 budget per test
  • Ad sets: different audiences (broad, interest-based, lookalike)
  • Creatives: test different angles and hooks

One test = one campaign. One KILL/KEEP decision per campaign.

Attribution: Why Facebook Lies About Your ROAS

Facebook Ads Manager doesn't show you the full truth on conversions. iOS 14.5 and subsequent privacy changes mean a significant portion of purchases aren't properly attributed to ads.

Symptom: ROAS of 2.0 in Ads Manager but your store's cashflow looks worse.
