Gift Card Issuance — Store Credit for a Customer Instead of a Cash Refund
### oneLiner
Programmatically issues a Shopify gift card to a specific customer — as goodwill for a delay, store credit after a return, or a loyalty reward.
### whenToUse
- When you delayed an order and want to offer compensation without issuing a credit note.
- Instead of a cash refund after a complaint — a gift card keeps revenue in the store.
- During a loyalty campaign, to programmatically reward a customer segment for crossing a spend threshold.
### howToRun
```
Run skill: shopify-admin-gift-card-issuance
Store: yourstore.myshopify.com
customer_email: customer@example.com
amount: 50
reason: "Goodwill: delayed shipment #1042"
dry_run: true
```
### whatYouGet
No CSV output — result appears inline in the session: gift card code, amount, expiry date, and internal note. The support agent copies the code and shares it with the customer. With `dry_run: true`, the skill only verifies the customer exists and shows the planned operation — no card is issued.
### polishContext
Under Polish VAT law, a Shopify gift card qualifies as a "bon jednego przeznaczenia" (single-purpose voucher / SVT) if it covers only goods at a single VAT rate. In that case the tax obligation arises at the point of sale, not redemption. With mixed assortment (multiple VAT rates), the card becomes a multi-purpose voucher (MPV) and tax is settled at redemption. Confirm the classification with your accountant before issuing cards at scale.
### safetyNote
This skill executes the `giftCardCreate` mutation — the card is issued immediately and cannot be deleted (only disabled). Always run with `dry_run: true` first to confirm the customer email and amount. Issued value is redeemable at checkout immediately.
